Anthony Irwin - Project 6

1. How did you find masking different from selecting using the Refine Edge Tool?
I was a bit confused by masks at first, but once I realized they were essentially just selections, they made more sense. You have more refinement options with masking.
1. What advantages/disadvantages did you discover between masking versus removing your background?
With masks, it is easier to modify your image and go back later.
2. Describe your experience using the Refine Edge Tool. Did it allow you to more closely define your edges?
I really liked Colin Smith's "Selections" video. It helped me further understand the different refinement options, especially using "view radius" to select the finer parts of an image such as hair.
3. What were your challenges?
On two of my images I had to go back and expand the canvas and fill the blank portion using content aware fill so they would be the same size when I saved for the web and uploaded them to my site. In doing this I also had to re-position some of the elements (layers) in the image to fill the blank space.
2. What was your intended result you hoped to create with the puppet warp tool? What options do you see the puppet warp tool might offer you in future projects?
Using puppet warp was fun, and I can see myself using it a lot in the future. I tilted my friends head back in one of the images, and made my Jenga tower lean in another one. It is similar to the warp transform tool, except you can add pins for more control.
3. When would you use quick mask tool instead of the mask palette?
For small, simple selections.
4. Did you find the channels section of the book challenging? How do you think you might use it in future projects? Did you complete the extra credit?
I didn't find following the book instructions very difficult, but I'd be hard pressed to repeat the process on my own. Using alpha channels for shadows was easier, and is definitely a useful trick. I used alpha channels, but I don't think I used them the way described for extra credit.
5. What keyboard shortcuts are you using regularly now?
I don't have any new shortcuts since my last post. I find that mashing my face into my keyboard is a good "stress relief" shortcut!
